New policy dialogue series to equip lawmakers with economic updates

Daayitwa, an NGO active in policy reforms, says it has launched a new policy dialogue series to equip lawmakers with evidence on economic affairs.

The first edition of the ECO Talks policy dialogue on women’s economic empowerment was organised in Kathmandu on Friday.

The dialogue featured lawmaker Kamala Roka as the policy champion on the issue.

During the event, the panel comprising Radhika Aryal, a joint secretary at the Ministry of Industry; Neeru Rayamajhi Khatri, the president of the Federation of Women Entrepreneurs’ Associations of Nepal and Yamuna Ghale, an agriculture, food security and gender expert examined the challenges of inclusive financial investment and innovative ways of resource mobilisation and made some recommendations to take parliamentary actions to promote women-led indigenous enterprises and accelerate economic growth of Nepal. 

The event brought together over 60 policymakers, CSOs, private companies, journalists and other relevant policy stakeholders. The Eco Talks policy dialogue series will continue to feature panels with three key policy stakeholders – policy beneficiaries, policy critics and policy implementers whereas one young parliamentarian will be chosen as a champion, according to the organiser.

Five more similar dialogues will be held under the ECO Talks series as a collaborative effort of Daayitwa and National Democratic Institute (NDI), the organiser informs.
